How to make popcorn on the stove?

Preparing popcorn at home

It is effortless and fast without a machine: you can make excellent popcorn simply by using fresh corn kernels to “pop” in a pan, pot, or microwave. For the preparation in the pool and the pan, it will be necessary to use the lid, preferably transparent, while for the practice in the microwave oven, you will need a paper bag. Once ready, you can season them with salt or sugar, or with butter or cheese, and munch on them in front of the TV, or eat them as a delicious snack. In this article, we read about How to make popcorn on the stove?

Homemade popcorn in a pan or pot

The pan is a convenient and quick tool for preparing popcorn without oil. Arrange a handful of corn kernels in the pan, increase the doses as needed, and put on medium heat. Cover with a lid, preferably transparent, and as soon as the corn begins to crackle, keep the top slightly raised by inserting, perhaps, a skewer to the side: never lift the lid completely. When a lot of them have burst, shake the pan a little to stir up the grains left on the bottom. As soon as they are ready, immediately remove them from the heat and enjoy them naturally or season them with salt or whatever you like.

If you do not have a non-stick pan, you can use the pot or a pan: in this case, you will need to use a few tablespoons of oil. Let it heat in a pot over medium-high heat, then try to insert a few kernels of corn and cover with the lid. Wait for them to pop and then add the others: never lift the top while they pop. Put the pot back on the heat and let them crackle over medium heat, shaking the pan from time to time to make popcorn on the stove, without ever lifting the lid. As soon as the explosions are finished, remove them from the heat, place them in a bowl and enjoy.

Homemade popcorn with the microwave

Even popcorn preparation in the microwave oven is quick and easy: insert a couple of corn kernels in a paper bag, close it by folding it twice at the top and tighten the closing fold with your fingers to complete it well. Alternatively, insert the bag inside another so that it closed on all sides. Turn on the oven at 750 w for 2 minutes and, in no time, you can enjoy your popcorn.

Tips and tricks to prepare popcorn to perfection

For the preparation of pot popcorn, use oils with a high smoke point: the ideal are vegetable ones such as peanut oil or coconut oil.

If most of the grains do not burst, you have most likely used little oil. If you opted for the preparation in the pot, the temperature was too low, or you had poured a few grains.

A secret to making popcorn without burning and waste is to keep the temperature under control: for an opening of almost all the beans, the temperature should remain constant at 180 °.

Turn off the stove once the popcorn is ready and wait at least twenty seconds before lifting the lid.

You can enjoy natural popcorn or season them with salt, sugar, and melted cheese. If you want to prepare the popcorn with butter instead, melt it in a saucepan and use it instead of oil.
